WFP supports over 1.4 million people in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh including over 860,000 Rohingya refugees and host community Bangladeshi under the L2 emergency operation. WFP provides food and nutrition assistance to the entire refugee population in the world’s largest refugee camp as well as school meals, nutrition service, and livelihood support to host communities in Cox’s Bazar.


In Cox’s Bazar, WFP supports 1.4 million people in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh: 860,000 Rohingya refugees and 540,000 host community Bangladeshi as part of the L2 emergency operation. The Cox’s Bazar Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Unit is a center for Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) and Analysis with expertise in assessments, monitoring, research and qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Under the MEAL unit, WFP has taken an initiative to actively engage in the humanitarian-development-peace nexus (triple nexus) which includes conflict sensitivity and social cohesion mainstreaming across all aspect of WFP operations in Cox’s Bazar.

The Social Cohesion and Conflict Analysis team aims to actively contribute to policy and programme design, and lead engagement with relevant actors internally and externally to contribute to the peace outcomes. Considering the scale of the operation and the activities planned around devising methods for evaluating impact as well as designing newer activities to contribute towards peace outcomes, this position would contribute to enhancing capacities of the MEAL unit in assessment and analysis for social cohesion and conflicts.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the direct supervision of the Lead for Social Cohesion and Conflict Analysis and the overall supervision of the Head of MEAL Unit, the incumbent will support assessments, engagement with programme units towards streamlining social cohesion and conflict sensitivity aspects across WFP’s functionalities.
The incumbent will mainly:
1. Provide technical guidance on regular assessments, workshops and programme designing around social cohesion and conflict sensitivity.
2. Support in developing tailored operating procedures to mainstream conflict sensitivity and social cohesion into WFP programmes, monitoring frameworks and work plans pertaining to WFP overall activities in Cox’s Bazar.
3. Identify opportunities to adapt programme/operations to enhance conflict sensitivity and explore new programme designs, taking social cohesion outcomes into account.
4. Explore opportunities with knowledge partners to enhance capacity strengthening of internal and external stakeholders.
5. Coordinate with M&E team on implementation of the communications with community activity.
6. Support engagement with local actors and facilitate community consultations in the refugee camps and host community.
7. Establish and maintain stronger linkages with protection, gender and environmental safeguards team to ensure regular mainstreaming of conflict sensitivity concerns.
8. Ensure documentation and dissemination of good practices and lessons learnt on conflict sensitivity, social cohesion and the triple nexus, and monitoring on these, in close coordination with the KIM and relevant teams as well as the country office.


EDUCATION: Completion of University degree (Bachelor/master’s degree or equivalent) in Political Science, Economics, International Relations, Social Sciences, Peace and Conflict or another relevant field.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three of professional work experience where one-year in programme development, social behaviour research, psychology or education field . Experience in the field of peace and conflict would be desirable


⦁ Strong digital literacy (including Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
⦁ Understanding of M&E, reporting, accountability will be required
⦁ Interpersonal, analytical , communication skill with high-level officials, consistency in advice and follow-up, ability to work with diverse teams, capability to provide sound advice and independent ability to facilitate coordinated planning and subsequent follow-up on implementation and reporting, ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing;
⦁ Ability to work in a team, flexibility in accepting work assignments outside normal desk description.
⦁ Innovative skills and commitment to support WFP Bangladesh in achieving gender parity among the national staff in all functions, levels and locations.

LANGUAGE: Excellent written and oral/communications skills in both English and Bangla.
