Chittagong College:
In 1836, Chittagong College was formed as Chittagong district school. After thirty years of establishment, it was upgraded to a high school in 1869. Since then, it is known as Chittagong Government College or Chittagong College. The college started its activities at a Portuguese-era establishment of one of the Parade Grounds next to the College Road in Chawkbazar of Chittagong. After being elevated to college, Mr. JC Bose became the first Principal. Since 1909, the Department of Science in this College was started as well as the Department of Science at the Higher Secondary level.
In 1910, the college got recognition from the University of Calcutta at the first grade degree college. Accordingly, this college starts teaching graduate, chemistry and physics subjects in subjects of undergraduate and graduate subjects. Since 1919, philosophy and economics have been added in English and supplementary classes in undergraduate subjects. Shamsul Olema Kamaluddin Ahmed was the first Muslim Principal in this college in 1924. During his time, the college progressed rapidly. Sher-e-Bangla A, K, Fazlul Huq laid the foundation stone of the Muslim Hostel at this time. During the Shamsul Ulama, the practice of publishing e-college magazine started. The most notable event of his time is the introduction of co-education. In 1926, this college’s first hostel was established.
